Rosewell Weidner (born in Reading) was a well-known
and respected Pennsylvania artist who taught portraiture at the
Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for most of his 57-year teaching
career. This painting depicts his first wife, Doris Kunzie Weidner
(also a painter). Mr. Weidner’s work had been on The State
Museum’s “wish list” for decades, and this gift
further strengthens The Museum’s twentieth century portrait
collection.
