The State Museum of Pennsylvania with support from the Friends of The State Museum and the Greater Harrisburg Arts Council commissioned Robin Stanaway, a glass artist whose works have been exhibited at the Pittsburgh Glass Center, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Tuscon Museum of Art and the P.S. 1 Museum and Contemporary Art Center, New York City, to create an installation art piece entitled Continuum, which is now displayed at the entrance to The State Museum’s auditorium foyer. This “visual poem” as Stanaway calls the work consists of two 12 foot by 10 foot mobiles of glass and metal that represents the thread of history from prehistoric times to the present. Stanaway and her assistant Becky Spevack took impressions of various items from The State Museum’s collections and molded them into glass “leaves” suspended from an elegant stainless steel “trunk”. This special piece is now installed along with special lighting designed to complement the sculpture. Robin Stanaway is a Pennsylvania native who resides and maintains a studio in Lebanon County.
